Beatrice Parsons, water colour artist, 1869-1955
I reproduce below an email received from a visitor to the village web site, I have replied saying that although I was familiar with some of the artists work ie: her paintings 'The Fountain Blickling Hall' and 'August Flowers',' The Water Garden' paintings of the gardens at the Pleasaunce and 'The Rose Garden' at Overstrand Hall But knew very little of the artist. However as I am always surprised at the things that villagers remember, I'm sure that someone might remember her or indeed have one of her paintings, if anyone does have any information regarding this artist, and would like to share it, then I would be happy to pass the information on to Sue Selwyn. simply click on Contact Overstrand Online
Dear Editor
Many thanks for your excellently researched and organised website. It is of great interest to me as I am researching the life and work of Beatrice Parsons (1869-1955) who specialised in watercolours of gardens. Between 1909 and c1938 she painted local scenery and gardens at the Pleasaunce, Overstrand Hall, Grangegorman, the Grange, Overstrand Rectory, Meadow Cottage and Blickling Hall.
I am wondering whether any of the older people in the village or roundabouts have any memories of the artist who is thought to have visited every summer in the 1920s, or if anyone knows the whereabouts of any of her paintings.
Also you refer to Dr. Dent's diary 1889-1922 - is there any chance he mentions Beatrice Parsons in it? And is there a copy anywhere that I could take a look at?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Sue Selwyn
