The Women's Institute LogoThe Overstrand Women's Institute was founded in 1983 and now has approximately 36 members. Detailed information about the W.I. can be found at www.thewi.org.uk.

We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall, The Londs, Overstrand. Most meetings feature a guest speaker and there is often a demonstration, slide show or entertainment of some kind.

The programme for 2008, for example, included illustrated talks on: the uses of wild plants, famous personalities from Cromer's past, and the work of the Canaan Trust. We also enjoyed a party to celebrate our 25th birthday in October with a supper buffet and a jazz quartet, and, in August, a summer outing to Pensthorpe.

The programme for 2010 appears below.

Each month we have a competition linked to the featured topic, plus a raffle, and every third month there is a 'trading table' where members can offer items such as cakes, preserves, books and bric à brac for sale.

When the speaker has finished there is usually an opportunity for questions and discussion, and always a hot drink, a biscuit or two, and time for a chat. We pride ourselves on offering a warm welcome to members and visitors, and are always delighted to have guests at our meetings.

During the year we usually have a garden party, plus fund raising events such as coffee mornings. Members are also involved in other W.I. activities such as craft and Scrabble competitions, meetings and events at neighbouring institutes, regional or national meetings of various kinds.
